About The Position

The Inclusion Counselor provides 1 – on – 1 support and plays a vital role in ensuring that campers with unique behavioral, emotional, developmental, or medical needs receive the support necessary to have a successful and inclusive overnight camp experience. This counselor will be paired with one camper and will serve as their primary support throughout the camp day and night.

Requirements

Minimum age: 18
College course work in Social Work, Education or related field required
Willing to live on camp premises for the duration of the camp session(s)
Compassionate, patient, flexible, and reliable.
Able to stay calm under pressure and respond to challenging situations appropriately.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

Courses in Special Education highly preferred.
Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities or behavioral needs, preferred.

Responsibilities

Help modify and adapt activities so campers receiving inclusion support can participate.
Provide a supportive and nurturing environment to build a partnership with camper(s).
Supervise and participate in various activities, games, and crafts for campers.
Assist with daily set up and take down of materials.
Come to camp each day with a positive attitude and set the tone for campers.
Keep the Inclusion Unit Head informed of any camper issues.
Review and implement Individualized Camper Plans.
Maintain documentation on successes and challenges of the camper to help facilitate correspondence with families.
Attend staff orientations and meetings.
