About The Position

We are recruiting for multiple incident responders to join our team in Milwaukie! In this role, you will actively assist in maintaining safe and efficient travel on Oregon roadways as you patrol the Portland metro area in a specialized emergency vehicle. You will initiate and clear traffic obstructions and will act as an on-scene commander at incident sites, interacting with private, public and commercial vehicle operators daily. We have updated this posting to include hiring for 2 permanent positions along with potentially 2 limited duration appointments. The limited duration appointments are expected to end on or before 6/30/2027. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. Requirements

  • Two years of experience related to the duties of the position.
  • One year of this experience must include public safety or transportation related experience.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position.
  • You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
  • This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 2440 SE Stubb St., Milwaukie, Oregon 97222 for emergency call-outs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide minor road service assistance to motorists, clear disabled vehicles from travel lanes and coordinate tow requirements.
  • Identify traffic hazards, develop removal plan, coordinate safe expeditious hazard removal, clear hazardous road conditions from travel lanes and provide immediate response to any incidents or hazardous situations that jeopardize the safe and efficient movement of traffic.
  • Develop and implement emergency traffic controls that safely optimize traffic movement through or around the incident location.
  • Provide on scene leadership in situation assessment, traffic control and coordination of activities in adherence to the Incident Command System.
  • Prepare and process motorist assistance logs, incident reports, damage claims and other documents required for incident investigations.
  • Oversee removal of wreckage and debris and coordinate clean-up activities.
  • Initiate emergency road closures caused by weather or other natural disasters and coordinate with the Transportation Management Operations Center and highway maintenance operations to restore safe conditions.
  • Maintain equipment, shop facilities, vehicles and tools in clean and serviceable condition.
  • Participate as part of our team and establish and actively maintain professional working relationships with customers and coworkers.
