As a part-time Inbound Freight Handler, you will load and unload freight onto and off equipment and assist with recovering damaged freight. You will prepare, sweep, inspect, and clean trailers before loading freight; use safe lifting techniques; and select appropriate equipment to move, arrange, and unload freight. Equipment may include forklifts with appropriate hardware, hand trucks, drum trucks, pallet jacks, and rollers. You will weigh and measure shipments for proper classification, freight rating, and safe handling, and plan trailer cube utilization and weight distribution. You will count and inspect freight, document shortages or damage, review freight bills and manifests for instructions and exceptions, and verify labels and destination codes. When handling hazardous materials, you will verify product descriptions, identify paperwork discrepancies, and confirm proper placarding. You will also block and brace freight to prevent shifting in transit.
