About The Position

Uwharrie Charter Academy is seeking a dependable, student-focused In-School Suspension (ISS) Teacher Assistant to support the academic and behavioral success of middle school students assigned to the ISS program. The ISS Teacher Assistant will supervise students throughout the school day, maintain a structured and positive learning environment, monitor behavior, and assist students in completing assigned coursework. The ideal candidate will possess strong classroom management skills, the ability to build positive relationships with students, and a commitment to helping students remain engaged in their learning while promoting accountability and personal growth.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and manage middle school students.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or youth-development setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Previous experience as a teacher assistant, behavior support staff member, or school-based support professional.
  • Training or experience in classroom management, restorative practices, or student behavior interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students assigned to In-School Suspension throughout the school day.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and orderly classroom environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school policies consistently and fairly.
  • Support students in completing assignments provided by classroom teachers.
  • Communicate with teachers regarding student work completion and progress.
  • Track attendance, behavior, and academic completion for students in ISS.
  • Encourage appropriate student behavior and provide positive redirection when needed.
  • Assist students with organization, time management, and study skills.
  • Document behavioral incidents and communicate concerns to administrators as needed.
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to support student success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
