About The Position

The In-House Service Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the operational excellence, reliability, & safety of ophthalmic & lens finishing equipment. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, & repair of specialized instruments used in medical & laboratory settings. The technician will provide both technical expertise & customer support, ensuring equipment meets performance specifications & quality standards. This role also involves maintaining comprehensive service documentation & supporting compliance with internal procedures & regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Technology, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent hands-on training & experience in equipment repair.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in equipment maintenance, calibration, or technical support roles.
  • Proven proficiency in reading & interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, & schematics.
  • Strong mechanical & electrical troubleshooting capabilities, including familiarity with diagnostic tools & multimeters.
  • Basic computer literacy, including experience documenting service work electronically.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills, with a focus on professionalism & customer service.
  • Ability to lift & move equipment (up to 50 lbs) & perform physically demanding installations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within the optical, ophthalmic, or healthcare device industries.
  • Hands-on experience servicing ophthalmic instruments or lens finishing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) & calibration on a wide range of ophthalmic & finishing instruments, including phoropters, slit lamps, autorefractors, & lens edgers.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, & repair mechanical & electrical issues efficiently to minimize downtime & maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Execute all calibration & service procedures in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), manufacturer specifications, & applicable regulatory requirements
  • Maintain complete & accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, calibrations, & equipment history within the company’s service management system.
  • Collaborate with external vendors or specialized service partners for complex repairs, parts sourcing, or advanced diagnostics when necessary.
  • Manage & maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, test equipment, & maintenance supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Support internal & external customers by providing technical guidance, troubleshooting assistance, & product support via phone, email, or video.
  • Participate in incoming inspection & testing of new or refurbished equipment prior to release or shipment.
  • Assist in the evaluation & implementation of process improvements to enhance service efficiency, quality, & safety.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies & regulatory requirements when handling tools, electrical systems, & optical instruments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the service department, supporting team goals & knowledge sharing.
