About The Position

The In-House Counsel – Sales and Supply Chain Transactions will function as a member of the Textron Aviation Inc. legal department, located in Wichita, Kansas. This role supports Textron Aviation’s aircraft sales and supply chain organizations on a broad range of issues pertaining to domestic and international transactions for the sale and purchase of goods and services. Other duties may be assigned as well. The successful candidate will office in Wichita, KS, working directly with business counterparts (not a remote position). This position reports to a Deputy General Counsel or other legal department attorney, depending on candidates’ level experience. The successful candidate must be an approachable, solution focused, and proactive business partner and legal advisor. This position requires a candidate with a broad range of legal skills, demonstrated expertise in commercial transactions, both domestically and internationally, and a working knowledge of general aviation. Candidates with knowledge of UCC contract law, U.S. government procurements, aircraft ownership structures, aircraft registration and supply chain contracts are preferred.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must be a member of the Kansas bar or meet eligibility requirements for admission to the Kansas bar under Rule 721 for a corporate law license.
  • Minimum 3-6 years law firm or in-house experience relevant to commercial contracting, procurement, intellectual property, and/or federal government contracts required.
  • Approachable, solution focused, and proactive legal counselor and business partner.
  • Broad range of legal skills, aviation knowledge, demonstrated expertise in commercial transactions, both domestically and internationally, working knowledge of general aviation, and experience in working with international operations.
  • General understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulation contract processes.
  • Knowledge of UCC contract law, aircraft ownership structures, aircraft registration and supply chain contracts.
  • Proven track record of confronting and successfully resolving complex legal and commercial matters with significant financial and business impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and weigh business and legal risks; lead strategically and propose or advance innovative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively, work diplomatically, be approachable, and foster relationships with individuals at all levels including internal contacts, outside attorneys, customers and vendors.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate recommendations and options regarding complex legal issues.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and contract claims.
  • Working knowledge of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering regulatory concerns.
  • A drive to deliver quality results on time and in a highly ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments simultaneously with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • A team player with an open, mature and positive personality who is willing to share and communicate information effectively.
  • Must have strong work ethic and a desire to consistently perform at the highest levels of competence.

Responsibilities

  • Position will be a workstream intake point into the legal department.
  • Partner closely with business leaders and cross-functional counterparts to support business objectives.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance on contract terms, risk allocation, and negotiation strategy.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts and other legal documents related to aircraft sales and supply chain and manufacturing agreements, both domestic and international.
  • Develop and deliver training on various preventive and substantive legal and compliance matters for leadership and the business.
  • Participate in and support other legal matters and activities, as required.
