About The Position

Probate Advance, part of Libra Solutions, is seeking an In-House Counsel & Portfolio Manager to provide in-house legal counsel and collaborate with Operations, Enterprise Risk, Leadership, and other stakeholders. The position advances the company’s mission while managing risk in a complex environment. It monitors a nationwide portfolio of pending assignments in open probate matters and represents Probate Advance’s beneficial interests in New York estate proceedings. The role also supports legal workflows, risk management, probate litigation, and relationships with outside counsel and probate attorneys nationwide.

This is an in-person, hybrid position based out of the company’s Rye Brook, New York office. Employees work in the office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active admission, or pending admission, to the New York State Bar.
• 1–2 years of experience in Trust and Estates law or probate litigation.
• Willingness to seek bar admission in key jurisdictions.
• Strong analytical skills and experience in judgment enforcement.
• Ability to manage a high-volume workload and meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills for resolving multi-party estate disputes and settlement discussions.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain a nationwide portfolio of pending assignments in open probate matters.
• Represent Probate Advance’s beneficial interests in New York estate proceedings.
• Draft, review, and file court pleadings, motions, and legal instruments in multiple jurisdictions.
• Provide timely guidance on contract interpretation and templates, underwriting escalations, risk allocation, obligations, workflow improvements, dispute prevention, and recovery strategies.
• Partner with Enterprise Risk to develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with best practices.
• Intervene in and manage probate litigation matters to protect the company’s interests.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel and probate attorneys nationwide.
