About The Position

Great American Insurance Group is seeking an attorney to join their Property & Casualty Group Legal Department in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. This role will provide legal advice and counsel for business units and shared services groups, with a focus on reinsurance, corporate, and other strategic matters. The ideal candidate will be a professional with excellent communication and analytical skills, comfortable handling a variety of legal issues, and seeking a dynamic legal career with work/life balance. The legal team values flexibility, acting as both subject matter specialists and general advisors, and this position offers the opportunity to work closely with management teams. Requirements

  • Excellent academic credentials, including a JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law.
  • 1-5 years’ experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Common sense, good judgment, and solution-oriented attitude toward legal issues.
  • Ability to solve problems and to provide practical, risk-based advice.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with corporate transactions is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, negotiates, and provides counsel on a range of contracts for our Property & Casualty Group, including confidentiality, reinsurance, and other corporate contracts.
  • Counsels business and corporate services operations on regulatory matters associated with various transactions and corporate initiatives.
  • Develops relationships throughout the Company so that legal advice is tailored to the unique needs of each of our specialty insurance divisions.
  • Collaboratively works with other members of the Legal team to achieve optimal results for our business clients.
  • Engages in issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem solving on a daily basis.
  • Partners with other business support groups to assist in educating business clients on corporate and contractual issues.
  • Monitors legal and regulatory issues and identifies and assesses trends and emerging risks within the focus area.
  • Handles other matters within P&C Legal as needed.
