About The Position

The OPO In-House Coordinator supports the mission, vision and values of SFDN by developing and maintaining a positive donation culture within the assigned hospital(s). The role establishes effective systems for donation by developing and maintaining relationships with key hospital partners, coordinating, and implementing educational opportunities. The IHC is also responsible for the clinical evaluation of potential donor patients, the collaboration with hospital staff in preservation of donation options and the presentation of donation options to legal next-of-kin/family support by obtaining authorization for organ and tissue donation. This position is required to be available nights, weekends and holidays to meet organizational needs and ensure proper coverage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or a combined total of 5 years’ education and experience in healthcare, marketing, or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of OPO or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Able to interpret and synthesize clinical information from medical charts.
  • Experience in public speaking, sales/marketing, data analysis, and/or strategic planning will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with hospital staff involved in the donation process. Meets regularly with key contacts to foster engagement and accountability for donation outcomes and resolves barriers while maintaining a positive, professional profile, as a representative of SFDN.
  • Conducts hospital rounds in all pertinent units to ensure timeliness of referrals and follow-up on active referrals, provides and receives feedback, and resolves issues or barriers to donation.
  • Plans and implements individualized education, both formal and informal for all hospital stakeholders.
  • Provides donor committee leadership with support and works with donation committee chairs to ensure committee is engaged and used as a resource to support donation initiatives.
  • Provides onsite donation case assistance as appropriate.
  • Actively participates in required organizational and departmental meetings and in organizational workgroups or committees as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Provides timely onsite responses to organ referrals in assigned hospital.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to determine suitability of organ referrals and determine next steps following initial evaluation of potential organ donors.
  • Follows-up on all active referrals and maintains close communication with AOC’s and clinical colleagues to maintain option for donation on suitable candidates.
  • Ensures that all donation-related documentation, including documentation required to comply with hospital protocol, is properly signed and witnessed.
