About The Position

Our In-Home Support Specialists are committed to facilitate, model, and build skills that will lead to the optimal independence of the people we support. This is a part-time position.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer aptitude
  • Ability to speak/write in English
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license, privately owned vehicle, and evidence of insurance

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred

Responsibilities

  • Daily activities such as meal preparation and planning
  • Personal care
  • Facilitating community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community
  • Providing transportation to recreational and community activities
  • Supporting therapeutic and behavioral plans
  • Mentoring and assisting people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health
  • Advocating for and protecting participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures
  • Treating all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and encouraging opportunities that promote choice
  • Maintaining a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public and outside representatives
  • Working with a spirit of cooperation with all departments
  • Carrying out all job responsibilities in a professional manner
  • Attending all agency staff meetings and training sessions
  • Maintaining attendance and adhering to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness
  • Keeping supervisor informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity
  • Serving as a positive and appropriate role model for program participants
  • Providing advocacy for participants based on their personal choice and their individual plan
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers
  • Responding to the needs of participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional manner
