About The Position
Our In-Home Support Specialists are committed to facilitate, model, and build skills that will lead to the optimal independence of the people we support. This is a part-time position.
Requirements
- Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health
- Valid driver’s license required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic computer aptitude
- Ability to speak/write in English
- Possesses a valid driver’s license, privately owned vehicle, and evidence of insurance
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred
Responsibilities
- Daily activities such as meal preparation and planning
- Personal care
- Facilitating community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community
- Providing transportation to recreational and community activities
- Supporting therapeutic and behavioral plans
- Mentoring and assisting people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health
- Advocating for and protecting participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures
- Treating all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and encouraging opportunities that promote choice
- Maintaining a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public and outside representatives
- Working with a spirit of cooperation with all departments
- Carrying out all job responsibilities in a professional manner
- Attending all agency staff meetings and training sessions
- Maintaining attendance and adhering to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness
- Keeping supervisor informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity
- Serving as a positive and appropriate role model for program participants
- Providing advocacy for participants based on their personal choice and their individual plan
- Developing and maintaining positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers
- Responding to the needs of participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional manner
