About The Position

Option Excavating Inc. is seeking an In-Field Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their growing team. This role is ideal for an experienced mechanic who enjoys working independently, troubleshooting in the field, and traveling to various job sites throughout Alberta to service and repair heavy construction equipment. The company is looking for individuals who take pride in their work, prioritize safety, and enjoy solving mechanical challenges in a fast-paced construction environment.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Apprentices and experienced mechanics are encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment preferred.
  • Experience working on excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, graders, rock trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment independently.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Alberta to various job sites.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of lifting heavy components and performing demanding mechanical work.
  • Positive attitude, dependable, and committed to producing quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to construction sites throughout Alberta to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment.
  • Perform field repairs on excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, skid steers, compactors, rock trucks, trailers, pumps, and other construction equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, engine, drivetrain, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
  • Complete preventative maintenance, inspections, and scheduled servicing to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures using diagnostic tools and repair manuals.
  • Repair and replace engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, electrical components, brakes, steering, and undercarriage systems.
  • Conduct equipment inspections to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair reports, and service logs.
  • Order parts and communicate repair needs with supervisors.
  • Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Identify potential equipment issues before they become major repairs.
  • Follow manufacturer repair procedures and company maintenance standards.
  • Conduct field-level hazard assessments before beginning work.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and project managers.
  • Promote and follow the company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
