About The Position

The Import Specialist III will be responsible for ensuring import compliance with all regulations and efficient delivery of goods. This role involves reviewing and processing import documentation, resolving errors, classifying and valuing imported goods, and determining tariffs, duties, and taxes. The specialist will also identify and ensure compliance with Partner Government Agencies regulations, maintain a database of import materials, and create written procedures for each account. Staying up-to-date on U.S. Customs regulations and trade publications is crucial. The role also includes problem-solving for import issues, monitoring trade agreements, analyzing import data for process improvement, assessing risks, and conducting shipment inspections and audits. This position requires building strong relationships with external partners, working collaboratively with internal teams, and acting as a liaison between customs authorities and the organization.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and 3-5 years of related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft applications and SAP (or similar planning and scheduling modules)
  • EAR and ITAR knowledge to process licenses with the respective government agencies
  • Experience with the ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) Portal
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, diverse team environment
  • Good communication and organization skills and a strong attention to detail are required
  • In-depth knowledge of supply chain management systems and procedures
  • Excellent telephone mannerism with outstanding customer service skills
  • Adaptable, flexible and has the ability to adjust plans depending on urgency of tasks
  • Possess strong planning, analytical, and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of ECCN and USML classification process

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with freight forwarders, brokers, and external companies.
  • Work with supply chain and procurement teams to streamline import operations.
  • Act as a liaison between customs authorities and the organization.
  • Provide import guidance and training to internal teams.

  • Classify and valuate imported goods according to US Harmonized Tariff Schedule and company standards.

  • Maintain a detailed database of import materials and transactions.
  • Create and manage written procedures for each account, including classifications, fees, and processes.
  • Stay up-to-date on U.S. Customs regulations and trade publications.
  • Resolve import issues (delays, documentation errors, non-compliance) and communicate with supervisors.
  • Monitor trade agreements, tariffs, and regulatory changes for potential impact.
  • Analyze import data to identify inefficiencies and improve processes.
  • Assess and mitigate import-related risks (legal, financial, compliance).
  • Conduct shipment inspections and audits to ensure quality and adherence to terms.
