About The Position

The Sr. Import Brokerage Agent will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing complex import transactions for assigned accounts. This role involves the classification and valuation of goods, assisting with work stream development for new and existing accounts, and maintaining client relationships. The agent will monitor shipments for compliance, advise supervisors of any issues, and stay current with U.S. Customs regulations. Responsibilities include compiling and preparing commercial regulatory documents, coordinating the release of goods, and responding to client inquiries. The role also involves preparing customs entries, processing post-entry work, and ensuring accuracy in documentation and compliance with federal regulations. A key aspect of this position is providing excellent client service and resolving complaints diplomatically.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Direct experience and working knowledge of Customs brokerage.
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience relative to brokerage.
  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Communication and client service skills.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues from all departments to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • Basic Computer Skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review and process complex import transactions for assigned base of accounts for all entry types, including the classification and Valuation of goods.
  • Assist in the reviewing process for work stream development of new and existing accounts including reviewing all documentation and forms, maintaining communications with clients, reviewing their import process on a regular basis, and maintaining client profiles and databases.
  • Monitor shipments as they approach noncompliance based on client control, event control, and transactional data count or control.
  • Advise supervisor of any problems or irregularities.
  • Stay current of U.S. Customs regulations (Customs Brokers and the Customs Clearance process); and classification and valuation rules through self-study, approved related courses and seminars, and regular review of trade publications.
  • Compile and prepare commercial regulatory documents for entry processing.
  • Coordinate and confirm release while operation in compliance of US customs regulations.
  • Coordinate/assist the release of goods from the carrier, customs or other governmental agency examinations that may be required.
  • Respond to incoming communications from internal and external clients and where necessary resolve and escalate issues as needed.
  • Communicate, and coordinate all customs clearance.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding status of shipments in transit; follow through on trace request as necessary.
  • Prepare customs entries and follow-up with the clearance process on all entries prepared.
  • Scan, file, copy, and assemble documents including: bills of lading, dock receipts, licenses, and consulate documents.
  • Calculate duties or tariffs to be paid on merchandise.
  • Review rates, trace product movement, file entries with Customs; provide clarification and valuation of merchandise.
  • Process post-entry work including ruling requests, CF 28's, refunds, protests, and drawbacks.
  • Review and assess accuracy, verify country of origin/export, IOR, terms of sale and value to ensure that federal regulation requirements are achieved.
  • Stay up-to-date on all customs changes.
  • Research client claims ensuring the highest level of client service on every call and ensure that all service complaints are handled diplomatically, channeling pertinent information to supervisor/manager.
