MonstroNew York, NY
$173,600 - $206,000Hybrid

About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Implementation Engineer (backend focus). You will be part of the team that will be implementing our product to multiple global large financial institutions to integrate and scale the client-facing systems that power our platform. This role owns critical backend services that handle sensitive financial data, where reliability, security, and performance are essential to our clients.

Requirements

  • Proven experience integrating a smaller-product SaaS into large enterprise environments (e.g., fintech startup integrating with major banks or card networks).
  • Direct experience with open-banking style integrations — ideally FDX (preferred); otherwise experience with UK/EU open banking, or large financial integrations.
  • Hands-on responsibility for building an integration layer that connects core product to client systems and APIs.
  • Strong communicator who leads technical conversations, coordinates with client-side engineers, and takes ownership through delivery.
  • 7+ years professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in either Python, Go.
  • Hands-on production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience scaling and performance-tuning container-based applications.
  • Solid understanding of the full SDLC and modern development toolchains (CI/CD, monitoring, logging, deployment automation).
  • Familiarity with API design, microservices patterns, and distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of caching patterns and strategies.
  • Test-driven development and test automation experience.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work at a software company that delivered integrations for large enterprise clients.
  • Comfortable working directly with enterprise technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience navigating security, compliance, and operational requirements for financial integrations.
  • Experience documenting integration patterns, runbooks, and onboarding guides for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services that power Monstro’s consumer experience
  • Work with client IT teams to integrate Monstro backend services with client APIs and systems
  • Build new APIs, integrations and data pipelines
  • Architect systems that scale gracefully as our user base grows
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement caching strategies (Redis, CDN, application-level caching)
  • Optimize query performance and tune container-based applications
  • Design for resilience with failover strategies, retry logic, and graceful degradation
  • Containerize and orchestrate services using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Collaborate with platform teams on infrastructure decisions
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and ensure smooth, reliable deployments
  • Understand and work across the full SDLC, from local development through production observability
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases, partnering with data engineers on schema and data models
  • Build integrations with banking systems, payment processors, and financial data providers
  • Implement event-driven architectures and message queues where appropriate
  • Build systems with security as a first-class concern, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit logging
  • Ensure systems meet fintech regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Guide and develop junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and technical coaching
  • Partner closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver cohesive features
  • Participate in architectural discussions and incident response, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence
