The Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought trains Yeshiva University students to be Modern Orthodox intellectual leaders who are well-versed in both Torah and the Western canon. Through a combination of unique, interdisciplinary courses taught in collaboration with faculty from within and beyond YU, as well as communal events, professional mentorship, and publications, the Straus Center seeks to cultivate the intellectual, religious, and civic leaders of tomorrow. At the forefront of the Center is the Straus Scholars Program, a competitive undergraduate honors scholarship that provides select students who display high academic achievement and leadership potential with courses, extracurricular programs, and small group seminars with visiting dignitaries and intellectuals. The goal of the highly selective program is to offer the aspiring intellectual leaders an unparalleled education through the study of the great works of the Jewish tradition in conversation with Western politics, art, literature, and philosophy. The Straus Center’s Impact Office is responsible for fostering the growth of the Straus Scholars beyond the walls of the classroom by making them aware of internship and fellowship opportunities and job postings, offering mentorship and networking opportunities over the course of their early careers, and arranging continued intellectual enhancement activities following graduation. The Impact Officer will assist the Director of the Impact Office by identifying professional opportunities for the Straus Scholars and alumni, especially in the fields of journalism, politics, and public affairs, as well as coordinating public-facing conferences and other projects that raise the profile of the Straus Center.
