About The Position

Data helps us tell the story of our impact. By listening to our volunteers and participants, we gain valuable insights into how our programs, events, and activities impact communities across the country. The Data Analytics intern will contribute to the evaluation and data analysis of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) programs and activities. The intern will participate in survey design, data visualization development, and the analysis and reporting of findings. Interns will also support the management of projects as needed. The intern will gain practical experience in evaluation, mentorship from experienced professionals, and the opportunity to apply classroom learnings to support impactful public health evaluations. This internship is approximately 6 months in duration (Summer and Fall semester 2026), with the potential for extension. Interns are expected to work 10-15 hours per week but may work more if the academic program requires. $500 per month stipend available for duration of the internship. Candidates must be enrolled as graduate students receiving academic credit for the duration of the internship term. This position is remote. Applicants must reside in the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, statistics, evaluation, or a closely related field.
  • Be enrolled in a master's degree program in evaluation, public health, or a related field, or 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in quantitative research.
  • Strong attention to detail in written and oral communication.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills, strong technical skills, good judgment, problem solving skills, and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrating/safeguarding ethics and integrity.
  • Self-development, initiative-taking.

  • Experience in Qualtrics, an online survey platform.
  • Experience in evaluation and quantitative data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Data Analytics and in collaboration with the Impact Measurement team, apply data analysis and interpretation to evaluate AFSP's activities, programs, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on designing evaluation surveys.
  • Build and implement surveys in Qualtrics, an online survey platform, applying best practices for flow, accessibility, and usability.
  • Develop reports for various grants, programs, and activities including data interpretation and recommendations.
  • Use data visualization techniques to effectively communicate findings to broad audiences.
  • Create dashboards, data visualizations, and reports to monitor key outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Impact Measurement team to present evaluation findings to various audiences.
  • Assist in secondary data analysis.
