Impact Engineer Fellowship

LOVE JUSTICE INTERNATIONAL,
Onsite

About The Position

Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to combating human trafficking by disrupting it in transit. They operate as an "Impact Engineering" organization, using scientific and business principles combined with local insights to intercept potential trafficking victims efficiently. The Impact Engineer Fellowship is a full-time, one-year position based in Ballito, South Africa, focused on developing, refining, and improving LJI's core processes through practical tools like software, data systems, and standardized forms. This role is crucial for optimizing interventions and maximizing mission impact per dollar spent. The Impact Engineer will report to the Chief of Staff and may involve travel to different fields. Success in this role requires rigorous thinking about impact, the ability to translate ideas into usable tools, cross-disciplinary collaboration, a sharp mind, a builder's instinct, a willingness to learn, and a deep commitment to LJI's mission.

Requirements

  • Mature Christian faith and agreement with LJI's Global Value to “Abide in Christ”.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and agreement with how the Christian Gospel ministers to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40) and guides us in our mission.
  • Agreement with LJI's Core Value “Be the Kingdom” (in mission execution and personal conduct).
  • Acknowledgment of LJI's Statement of Faith.
  • Passion for justice and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (any field demonstrating strong analytical, technical, or problem-solving foundations).
  • Significant experience in at least one relevant domain—e.g., business, operations, finance, legal, data analysis, human assessments, human resources, security, engineering, or product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and improve processes, tools, or systems in a real-world operational context.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets and data-driven decision-making (Google Sheets or Excel; Tableau or other analysis tools a plus).
  • Strong critical-thinking and structured problem-solving skills.
  • High standard of personal discipline, work ethic, and self-motivation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, especially in simplifying complex ideas into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Strong project-management ability, from problem scoping to execution to iteration.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams, cultures, and areas of expertise.
  • Adaptability and comfort working in dynamic, sometimes ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve your own work—drafting, research, analysis, and redesigning workflows—with the discernment to verify outputs, catch errors, and recognize where AI is not appropriate.
  • Adherence to LJI's AI Tool Usage Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with partners from diverse contexts (international experience preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Find the most important opportunities to increase mission impact by looking at field realities, data, and partner feedback.
  • Turn what you learn into simple, practical tools—whether software features, forms, spreadsheets, or clear processes—that partners can use confidently.
  • Collaborate to test new ideas in the field, learn quickly from what works and what doesn’t, and refine tools until they’re ready to scale.
  • Work directly with field teams and partners to understand their constraints and make sure solutions fit local contexts.
  • Write clear, straightforward standards and workflows so tools can be used consistently across locations.
  • Improve LJI’s core processes by identifying problems, understanding root causes, and proposing evidence-based fixes.
  • Approach problems with curiosity and skepticism—question assumptions, look for alternative explanations, and focus on what drives real, measurable impact.
  • Travel periodically to observe operations firsthand, test tools on site, and adjust designs based on what you learn.
  • Build and maintain a team of financial supporters through regular communication and updates.

  • Competitive and thoughtful benefits packages tailored to the specific role and location of our staff.
  • Benefit offerings are designed to support wellness, work-life balance, and overall staff care.
