About The Position

The Cannabis Impact Business Support Team Manager is responsible for leading the Cannabis Impact Business Support Team and serving as the primary liaison to the Commonwealth’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This position supports impact licensee participation in the retail marijuana industry and promotes equitable business opportunities for historically economically disadvantaged communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, economic development, or regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in program management and stakeholder engagement required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Public Policy, Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Experience in cannabis industry regulation, social equity programs, or working with historically economically disadvantaged communities.
  • Familiarity with state licensing processes and public sector program development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Cannabis Impact Business Support Team.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on matters related to impact licensee participation in the marijuana industry.
  • Conduct analysis of potential barriers to entry for small, women-owned, and minority-owned businesses and veteran-owned businesses interested in participating in the cannabis industry.
  • Identify historically economically disadvantaged communities in Virginia.
  • Recommend strategies to mitigate barriers and promote equitable participation.
  • Provide business planning assistance to potential marijuana establishment licensees.
  • Spread awareness of marijuana marketplace opportunities in historically economically disadvantaged communities.
  • Offer technical assistance for navigating administrative licensing processes.
  • Coordinate outreach initiatives in areas disproportionately impacted by marijuana prohibition.
  • Collaborate with public institutions of higher education and community organizations.
  • Build partnerships to support an approach to marijuana regulation that is rooted in principles of restorative justice, economic equity, and public health.
  • Follow workplace safety regulations and adhere to applicable standards, processes, and programs established for your position.
  • Report unsafe work conditions to your supervisor.
  • Immediately report work-related incidents to your supervisor and participate in accident investigation requests.
