About The Position
This role involves managing environmental issues related to the Group’s mining projects and activities, both in Morocco and internationally. The position reports to the QSE Systems and Certifications Director. Key areas of involvement include environmental and social impact assessments, mine rehabilitation and closure, and the sustainable management of water resources. This will be done in collaboration with the Group’s technical and operational teams.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and impact assessment methodologies
- Good understanding of environmental issues related to mining activities
- Strong knowledge of mine rehabilitation and closure principles
- Good understanding of water management and water resource issues in the mining sector
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to mining projects
- Knowledge of international environmental and sustainable development standards and frameworks
- Good understanding of issues related to biodiversity, soil, waste, discharges and pollution prevention
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary environmental studies and projects
- Ability to analyze and challenge studies and recommendations prepared by consulting firms and specialized consultants
- Excellent analytical, synthesis, coordination and reporting skills
- Leadership, autonomy and ability to work cross-functionally with diverse stakeholders
- Fluency in French and good professional proficiency in English
Responsibilities
- Lead Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for projects, in collaboration with the Group’s Engineering, Geology and Operations teams
- Supervise mine rehabilitation and closure studies and plans, integrating environmental considerations throughout the different phases of the project life cycle
- Monitor environmental commitments, mitigation measures and associated action plans
- Coordinate the implementation and monitoring of PSSEs
- Lead project compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and international standards relevant to the mining sector
- Lead the implementation and deployment of the Group’s Water Policy, ensuring the sustainable and optimized management of water resources
- Monitor issues related to water quality, availability and consumption across relevant projects and sites
- Contribute to the identification and management of environmental risks and impacts associated with mining activities
- Ensure that biodiversity, soil, discharges, waste and pollution prevention considerations are integrated into environmental studies and plans
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholders and oversee specialized consulting firms and experts
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the environmental performance of the Group’s activities
