Immunology Senior Research Scientist - Single-Cell Genomics

Vertex Inc.Seattle, WA
$124,200 - $186,400Onsite

About The Position

At Vertex, we are relentless in our pursuit of transformative solutions for patients with serious diseases. Our innovative approach to research and development has positioned us as a leader in the biotechnology industry. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Senior Scientist, Single-Cell Genomics to join a multidisciplinary research team focused on advancing the understanding of human disease biology and enabling translational research through state-of-the-art cellular and molecular profiling approaches. The successful candidate will lead the design, execution, optimization, and interpretation of single-cell genomics and multi-omics workflows, with a primary emphasis on wet-lab experimental biology. This role will focus on implementation of 10x Genomics-based and related single-cell platforms to generate high-quality datasets from complex tissue and peripheral biological samples, including applications in immune cell profiling and disease-relevant contexts. The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on expertise in executing single-cell assays and the ability to partner closely with computational scientists and cross-functional research teams. The candidate will contribute to developing mechanistic understanding of disease biology and support translational research, biomarker development, and therapeutic hypothesis generation. This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist who is passionate about building and applying cutting-edge single-cell technologies to support target discovery, translational biology, and mechanistic investigation in a collaborative biotech environment.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on expertise in single-cell genomics workflows, with particular experience in 10x Genomics platforms
  • Strong wet-lab background in NGS library preparation, molecular biology, and complex sample processing
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and optimize technically sophisticated experiments
  • Effective communicator and collaborative scientist who works well in multidisciplinary, matrixed research environments
  • PhD in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with downstream computational analysis of single-cell datasets is not required but would be considered a significant advantage
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards in experimental rigor, data quality, and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Execute Single-Cell Genomics and Multi-Omics Workflows
  • Process primary samples and cell-based systems for single-cell applications, including tissue dissociation, cell isolation, enrichment, counting, and viability assessment
  • Generate high-quality libraries for transcriptomic, epigenomic, and/or immune profiling applications
  • Perform sample and library QC using standard methods such as Qubit, TapeStation, and Bioanalyzer
  • Perform end-to-end single-cell genomics and multi-omics workflows, including emerging modalities such as multiome and CITE-seq where appropriate, from sample acquisition through library preparation and sequencing
  • Establish and refine SOPs, assay documentation, and experimental best practices
  • Workflow Optimization and Troubleshooting
  • Execute and troubleshoot assays using 10x Chromium and related technologies
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across the workflow, including sample quality, library complexity, and sequencing performance
  • Optimize workflows as needed to maximize sample quality, cell recovery, and reproducibility across studies
  • Benchmark new methods and contribute to adoption of next-generation single-cell and multi-omics capabilities
  • Coordination and Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with internal core groups or external vendors for sequencing, run tracking, and data generation
  • Support or interface with flow cytometry and cell sorting activities where needed to enable downstream genomics workflows
  • Collaborate closely with bioinformatics and computational biology teams to support interpretation of complex datasets and enable biologically meaningful insights
  • Perform critical evaluation of assay and sequencing metrics, including read depth, mapping performance, cell recovery, and QC thresholds
