The Immigration Attorney provides high-quality legal representation to refugees, immigrants, and migrants navigating the immigration system, including individuals in removal proceedings. The attorney works collaboratively with attorneys and legal staff to represent clients before immigration courts and federal agencies, file affirmative and defensive applications, and guide legal assistants, student interns, and pro bono attorneys. The position serves the program’s community through immigration court representation and other legal services, potentially including services for migrants seeking asylum. The role is based primarily in a professional office environment and requires regular local travel to meet clients, attend court hearings, and engage with community partners and legal service providers. It involves direct work with clients who may have experienced trauma, displacement, and uncertainty, as well as managing complex legal matters, competing deadlines, grant reporting requirements, and court schedules. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional flexibility for evenings and weekends as case and court schedules require. It requires in-person client interaction and cannot be performed fully remotely.
