About The Position

Works under the direct supervision of a registered technologist as directed by a physician to perform a variety of imaging exams for Imaging Services. The Imaging Trainee Assistant is a training/orientation position to develop the knowledge, skills, abilities, tools, and critical reasoning to reduce the learning gap in anticipation of becoming a registered imaging technologist. The Imaging Trainee Assistant performs diagnostic examinations for assigned patients to gain experiences that establish a basis to guide practice and provide safe, quality care with supervision and guidance from experienced staff. The Imaging Trainee Assistant incorporates theoretical knowledge into clinical situations and is able to perform basic skills and assist registered technologists. Practice is under the direct supervision of a registered imaging technologist, referencing policies, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

• Must be actively enrolled and attending a program for radiography for the ARRT registry. Limited licensure programs are not eligible.
• (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - Course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Upon Hire
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
• Self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the organization.
• Must be able to lift 40-50lbs.

Responsibilities

• Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to the ordered exam.
• Interview patient (two patient identifier), conduct patient screening and obtain medical history pertaining to procedures clinical criteria.
• Explain procedure and instruct patient on necessary requirements needed to provide diagnostic images.
• Assist patient in dressing for exam and attend to patient's physical well-being while transporting to and from exam room and positioning for exam.
• Instruct/communicate with patient and/or patient's family (as appropriate) regarding the tests to be performed.
• Screen patients for medications, implanted devices, or other queries for examinations to ensure quality and safety.
• Assist the physician as needed in performing procedures.
• Ensure that images and electronic health records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
• Function in the department as a part of an interdisciplinary team, and collaborate in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines.
• Work with registered technologists to prioritize exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times and address stat and urgent requests.
• Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible with regards to equipment, supplies scheduling, overtime, etc.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures are securely maintained.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
