About The Position

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty department of Radiology is seeking an Imaging Technologist to perform CT and general radiography in multiple areas within the hospital, including Adult and Pediatric, Dexa, emergency room, OR, fluoroscopy, and orthopedic clinic. The role involves performing and teaching specialized CT and diagnostic radiography procedures using complex imaging equipment with close patient monitoring during exams. This includes independent operation with minimal physician supervision. The technologist will operate, adjust, and manipulate computerized electronic and mechanical components of computerized axial tomographic, angiographic, magnetic resonance systems, and multiple modalities of other general diagnostic equipment. They will also maintain, operate, and troubleshoot equipment, reporting failures. The position requires instructing trainees, students, and staff on equipment operation and safety precautions, explaining examination processes to patients, ensuring patient welfare, and assisting physicians with medical procedures. Patient care techniques include skin preparation, I.V. placement, vital sign monitoring and recording, and basic life support. The role also involves preparing and administering contrast material to patients, maintaining records and results of examinations, and archiving computer data. Efficient room utilization through daily, regular, and STAT scheduling is expected. Participation in on-call coverage, assisting with inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with hospital, departmental, and clinical unit standards are also part of the duties. The technologist will participate in phantom, human, and/or animal research and maintain knowledge of technical developments, software updates, and related subjects by attending meetings, continuing education programs, and participating in professional organizations and/or reviewing journals or publications. Performing quality assurance procedures and evaluating systems performance is required. Additionally, the role involves instructing and/or evaluating the clinical abilities and performance of Radiology Technology or sub-specialty students on a clinical rotation, and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • Current Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work or clinical education experience in general radiology in a level 1 Trauma center is desired.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in general radiography is desired.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in CT and general radiography is desired.
  • CT modality training.
  • CT certification or eligible.

Responsibilities
