About The Position

Under the direction of a technologist or radiologist, the Imaging Tech Assistant supports safe, efficient, and patient-centered imaging services. This role provides direct patient care that is sensitive to age, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs, while ensuring a clean, safe, and supportive care environment. The Imaging Tech Assistant contributes to workflow efficiency, patient comfort, and quality outcomes by assisting with exam preparation, patient positioning, and departmental operations in alignment with Trinity Health’s commitment to relationship-centered care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service, caregiving, or support role involving direct interaction with individuals
  • Basic computer proficiency, including use of email, internet browsers, and standard workplace applications
  • Ability to learn and navigate electronic health record (EHR) systems and imaging software (e.g., RIS, PACS) with training

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), EMT, or equivalent healthcare certification; or Enrollment in or completion of a healthcare-related training program (e.g., Radiologic Technology, Nursing, Medical Assistant, or similar)
  • At least Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare or patient-facing environment
  • Experience assisting with basic patient care activities
  • Exposure to hospital or clinical settings
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems

Responsibilities

  • Assist with direct patient care under supervision, ensuring dignity, comfort, and safety at all times
  • Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding procedures, delays, and expectations to reduce anxiety and improve cooperation
  • Verify patient identity using standard protocols (name, DOB, MRN) and confirm the ordered exam
  • Prepare patients for imaging exams, including positioning and assisting with transfers
  • Perform delegated clinical tasks, which may include: Venipuncture, IV start/discontinuation, Point-of-care testing (POCT), MRI screening and completion of required forms (e.g., contrast, history)
  • Monitor patient status and promptly escalate concerns to technologists, nurses, or radiologists
  • Assist with patient transport and flow throughout the department
  • Prepare exam rooms and equipment for procedures
  • Obtain and review relevant patient information (e.g., history, labs, allergies, prior imaging, implants)
  • Accurately document patient data in systems such as PACS, RIS, and electronic health records
  • Ensure specimens are properly labeled and delivered to the laboratory (if applicable)
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized care environment
  • Follow infection prevention protocols, including appropriate use of PPE
  • Adhere to MRI safety and/or radiation safety standards as applicable
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Report safety concerns, near misses, or incidents per organizational policy
  • Participate in required training, including: MRI and/or radiation safety, Basic Life Support (BLS), Annual mandatory education
  • Engage in ongoing learning to maintain and enhance skills
