Requirements

  • License /Certification Required: Heartsaver AED
  • Testing Must pass the Physical Capacity Exam (PCE). This includes a 50-pound lifting requirement.
  • Must have interest in the care of the sick.
  • Must be able to exhibit courteous and friendly manner to others.

  • Experience Preferred: Healthcare experience or experience with patients.

Responsibilities

  • Uses two identifiers when checking arm band with each patient, every time, before transporting to imaging department or back to their room or another department. Patients will not be transported to any location without an armband.
  • Transports patients to locations as assigned. Consistently follows all procedures regarding safe transport or transfer of patient. Uses proper body mechanics and equipment, at all times.
  • Picks up or delivers equipment or supplies on time, as assigned and assures department is well stocked. Maintains inventory of equipment or supplies according to procedure. Checks and replaces equipment as needed. Communicates condition of equipment and assures all nonworking equipment is red tagged and taken out of use, after discussing with supervisor.
  • Completes department specific technical tasks, which may include completing paperwork, reviewing MRI screening forms, or checking charts for physician orders prior to transporting patient to imaging services department. Department procedures followed at all times.
  • Complies with current policies and procedures including safety and infection control. Assures hand washing or sanitizer is used before entering a patient's room and after transporting patient to assigned location, for each patient, every time.
  • Always works to assure areas are clean and organized. All wheelchairs and gurneys are cleaned before and after patient transport, prior to a new patient being placed onto, gurney or wheelchair.
  • Is aware and educated in MRI and Radiation safety and reviews education materials yearly. Reviews any questions with supervisor as concerns may arise.
  • May help technologists in moving patients onto imaging tables and or assist in positioning patient onto table or on gurney. Educates patient as to where they are going, what test they will be having and approximately how long they will be in the specific department. Communicates well with each patient and helps to answer any questions they may have. Provides adequate handoff to technologist or nurse when coming to any imaging area or if transporting patient back to their room.
  • Assures all O2 cylinders are transported in a manner consistent with Kaweah Health policies to assure safe handling at all times. Assures O2 tank is full prior to transporting a patient requiring O2. Places all empty O2 tanks in the correct location marked as empty.
  • Is aware of all colored armbands and what they mean. Assures patient is observed and monitored while transporting. Gurney and/or bed rails are up and wheels locked prior to leaving patient for technologists and or nurse. Once patient is placed back in bed with bedrails up and tray by their side, asks each patient if there is anything else they need, prior to leaving them.
  • May have access to the following for the purpose of replenishment, stock rotation and expiration checks: Unit specific, commercially prepared kits (medication and non-medication containg) Biopsy trays, supplies Syringes/needles Contrast material O2 tanks/cylinders.
  • Safely performs complex patient lifts/transfers using various assisting devices and proper body mechanics.
  • Delivers medications: Medication/Contrast material can only be transported and will be delivered to RN. Medication/Contrast material cannot be left unattended at any time while transporting. RN must accompany all patients during a transfer if receiving blood products.
  • When necessary, fills out demographic or patient information on Radiology procedure record SBAR forms for technologists. Technologists and/or RN must fill out all medication or medical information.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
