About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time opportunity for experienced visual professionals with deep expertise in film, VFX, animation, cinematography, colour, lighting, rendering, or high-end photography and an exceptional eye for pixel-level image quality. This role supports advanced AI research focused on visual enhancement and image-generation quality. Selected professionals will evaluate high-resolution video and still imagery, identify subtle visual artifacts, develop rigorous evaluation standards, and translate complex visual observations into precise written feedback and structured quality criteria.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in film, VFX, animation, professional photography, digital imaging, or another high-end visual production environment
  • Professional experience as a VFX Supervisor, Rendering Supervisor, Lighting Artist or Supervisor, Colorist, Cinematographer, Effects Artist, Surfacing Artist, Photographer, Director, Digital Projectionist, or comparable visual specialist
  • Exceptional ability to identify pixel-level flaws, artifacts, and visual inconsistencies
  • Strong understanding of image quality, visual perception, lighting, colour, texture, and digital-image behaviour
  • Experience assessing high-resolution imagery and production-quality visual outputs
  • Ability to explain complex visual defects and quality differences precisely in written English
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted visual tools and workflows
  • Ability to generate visual samples for testing and comparison
  • Must be based in the United States
  • Able to work approximately 20 hours per week with availability overlapping PST through EST working hours
  • Reliable access to a 4K-resolution monitor or display

Nice To Haves

  • Training through a respected film, VFX, animation, photography, or digital-media programme is highly valued

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate high-resolution still images and video sequences at pixel level
  • Identify compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, and other visual defects
  • Assess grain structure, texture fidelity, edge quality, and image consistency
  • Detect over-sharpening, under-sharpening, and inappropriate enhancement
  • Determine whether outputs meet professional film, VFX, animation, or photography quality standards
  • Evaluate rendering quality, lighting behaviour, textures, materials, and compositing details
  • Identify subtle inconsistencies that may be overlooked in standard visual review
  • Assess continuity and visual consistency across frames and sequences
  • Apply professional judgement to high-end digital imagery and cinematic content
  • Review outputs against standards used in production-quality visual workflows
  • Assess colour consistency, grading quality, tonal relationships, and visual balance
  • Evaluate lighting behaviour, illumination, contrast, depth, and image structure
  • Identify colour artifacts and inconsistencies across sequences
  • Apply knowledge of light physics and visual perception to quality assessments
  • Evaluate depth of field, sharpness, and other image characteristics affecting perceived realism
  • Design and refine visual-quality evaluation templates and rating guidelines
  • Define clear standards for identifying and categorising visual defects
  • Develop criteria that reviewers can apply consistently across varied content
  • Address edge cases and ambiguous visual-quality scenarios
  • Help maintain a consistent professional quality bar across reviewers and projects
  • Generate visual samples for targeted testing and side-by-side comparison
  • Create examples designed to expose specific image-quality strengths or weaknesses
  • Evaluate enhanced, restored, generated, or upscaled content against reference material
  • Support structured experimentation across different visual conditions
  • Apply AI-assisted tools where appropriate to develop evaluation material
  • Translate subtle visual observations into clear, precise descriptive language
  • Produce structured feedback suitable for evaluation data and quality-review templates
  • Review AI-generated visual outputs against defined technical and aesthetic standards
  • Identify recurring artifact patterns and quality failures
  • Collaborate with other visual specialists and project leads to maintain evaluation consistency

Benefits

  • Part-time engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Approximately 20 hours per week
  • Compensation: $50–$80/hour
