About The Position

Orientation Leaders(OLs) are ambassadors for MICA, and facilitate Orientation for first-year and transfer students at the beginning of the Fall and Spring Semesters. OLs are ambassadors for MICA, responsible for facilitating undergraduate first-year and transfer student orientation. OLs play an active role in every program at Orientation, take initiative to create a supportive environment for new students throughout the year, and thoroughly understand our campus resources.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled MICA undergraduate student at time of employment
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • A desire to serve the MICA community
  • Ability to communicate effectively with new students and teammates, via email and in-person.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to consider the diverse needs and interests of the MICA student body, and address these through intentional and thoughtful programming and communication.
  • Orientation Leaders are expected to attend all mandatory trainings and events, as outlined below: Orientation Leader Training: Wednesday, August 12 – Tuesday, August 18, 2026 (includes Joint Student Leader Training)
  • Must be available every day of Fall Orientation (Wednesday, August 19 – Sunday, August 23, 2026)
  • Convocation: Morning of Tuesday, August 25th before morning classes.
  • Orientation Leaders cannot serve as an RA
  • Student employees may not work more than 20 hours per week across all on-campus positions

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the check-in process on move-in day.
  • Help guide new students when moving into their residence halls.
  • Give new students campus and neighborhood tours.
  • Eat meals with new students.
  • Have a daily meeting with your orientation students to review the day, answer questions, facilitate icebreakers, and build community through small group time.
  • Host, support, and implement evening socials like Extreme Bingo and Game Night.
  • Answer questions and be a resource to new students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
