About The Position

We are recruiting 3 Senior Orientation Leaders for Spring 2026! Serving as a Senior Orientation Leader (SOL) is an honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Senior Orientation Leaders will serve as peer educators, group facilitators, and mentors to the Orientation team. New Student Orientation selects two mature and dedicated student leaders to assist with implementing Orientation programs each year. The training for this position will be compensated with room and board. Any time worked beyond 40 hours/week will be compensated at time and a half.

Requirements

  • Must have worked as an Orientation Leader at Barry University.
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 at the time of application, which must be maintained throughout the position.
  • Must be free from disciplinary warning, probation, and/or suspension at the time of application and throughout the position.
  • Must be responsible for your own learning regarding institutional mission, policies and practices with guidance and training from the O-team leadership team.
  • Must be able to lead activities, role plays and scenarios.
  • Must be able to ask questions to understand assignments and expectations.
  • Must be able to challenge themselves to step out of their “comfort zone.”
  • Must be able to recognize and respect individual differences and the dignity of all people.
  • Must be able to keep an open mind and strive to learn a new perspective on the world.
  • Must adhere to the Academic Honor Code and the Student Code of Conduct as articulated in the Barry University Student Handbook http://www.barry.edu/studenthandbook/.
  • Must be able to support professional staff during all scheduled training sessions and Orientation sessions as outlined on the O-team leaders’ training schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new students and family members to Barry University during Orientation sessions and assist them through the check-in process. Specific tasks are assigned to each OL during Summer Orientation to do this.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model to the Orientation team, assisting the Director and Coordinator with logistics.
  • Be a source of information regarding academics, policies and procedures, campus resources and activities, building locations, and all other aspects of life at Barry University.
  • Facilitate well-organized, thorough discussions and activities with new students and the Orientation team.
  • Represent all college organizations equally and accurately to new students and their family members.
  • Attend the Saturday retreat event during Orientation weekend.
  • Must be available on Tuesdays from 3-5pm in the Fall semester to serve as an ELP Peer Mentor. This will allow you to further develop relationships and show support to the incoming class.
  • Actively lead and participate in the training sessions. Participating means listening, sharing your viewpoint, engaging, and arriving on time for each session.
  • Serve as the stage managers to ensure the team understand their role during the skits.
  • Plan a bonding event for the Orientation team to get to know each other.
  • Collaborate with your teammates to create a memorable, welcoming experience. Some examples include a video and a dance.
  • Present to students about information on Barry, including student tours and present at O-team informational sessions.
  • Other duties assigned.
