IIoT Senior Solution Engineer
About The Position
Toyota’s Manufacturing IT Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated IIoT Senior Solution Engineer. The primary responsibility of this position is to partner with manufacturing teams to design, develop, and deploy IIoT and SCADA solutions supporting manufacturing operations across production areas at TBMNC. Reporting to the IIoT Platform & Gemba Enablement manager, the person in this role will support the Manufacturing IT department's objective to enable team members to quickly solve problems by ensuring accurate, real-time data is available and seamlessly connected across manufacturing systems. This position is based in the Battery Plant, Liberty, NC. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within a commutable distance of this location.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 or more years of equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, SCADA/HMI development, or IIoT architecture
- 3+ years of experience with Ignition platform (Perspective, Designer, gateway architecture, scripting)
- Experience in Python, Jython, .NET/C#, or Typescript and SQL
- Experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens, or equivalent)
- 2+ years of experience using Sparkplug B, MQTT, and OPC UA/DA protocols in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with industrial protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet)
- Experience querying and updating SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL)
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills using 5 Why including protocol analysis and reverse engineering
Nice To Haves
- Experience developing custom Ignition gateway modules (Java/Kotlin)
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and modern infrastructure (Kubernetes/k3s)
- Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Utilizing coding agents like Copilot, or Claude Code to accelerate your work
- Linux administration experience (Ubuntu, RHEL)
- Experience with JTEKT Toyopuc PLC platforms
- Machine vision, RFID, or barcode integration experience
- Greenfield manufacturing facility startup experience
- Technical training or instructional design background
Responsibilities
- Building high-fidelity edge data ingestion systems capable of handling hundreds of concurrent PLC connections with sustained throughput at production scale.
- Providing our customers with highly reliable applications and systems that meet their business and process needs, developed in systems like: Ignition SCADA, .NET/C#, Typescript, and Angular
- Developing load testing platforms enabling repeatable stress testing of industrial drivers and messaging infrastructure prior to production deployment.
- Produce and maintain living architecture documentation, design specifications, and technical decision records.
- Enable and coach team members to build their own solutions and to use platform tools effectively.
- Collaborate with TBMNC engineering, production, logistics, maintenance, and quality teams to understand business process and translate into solution requirements.
- Evaluate emerging industrial technologies and provide strategic recommendations for integration into manufacturing environments.
