About The Position

Total Safety is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Specialist to join their safety-conscious team. This role involves monitoring client employees and contractors for physical and chemical stressors using various sampling equipment for noise, chemicals, radioactive materials, and airborne solid contaminants. The specialist will perform workplace exposure assessments, identify hazards, evaluate them, and recommend control measures. Requirements

  • Industrial hygiene field investigations and exposure assessments
  • Personal and area air monitoring for hydrocarbons, particulates, and other airborne contaminants
  • Asbestos and lead air monitoring and bulk sampling
  • Noise dosimetry and area noise surveys
  • Indoor air quality investigations
  • Operation, calibration, and maintenance of IH sampling and monitoring equipment
  • Field data collection, documentation, and basic analysis
  • Ability to use all types of industrial hygiene equipment and download information from meters.
  • Ability to draft reports of sampling and build tables to record data from IH sampling.
  • Understand the sampling media used for each type of sampling and select the correct media for all types of chemical agents.
  • Respond to emergencies, select the appropriate IH equipment to sample and provide accurate data.
  • Act independently of supervision and make decisions based on real-time data and activities occurring in the field.
  • Reliable and able to organize work priorities to complete tasks within constricted time frames.
  • Able to apply for credentials like a TWIC card and take tests to allow entry into customer facilities.
  • BS in safety, industrial hygiene or technical science.
  • 2-5 years of field IH experience minimum, preferably in oil and gas and refining with technical classes taken during the work period.
  • In lieu of a BS degree 8+ years of IH field work experience would be considered.

  • Possess or be willing to take exams for GSP, ASP. CSP, CIH and CHMM

  • Perform workplace exposure assessments to evaluate agents, rank them, and develop an IH sampling plan.
  • Recognize hazards, evaluate them, and recommend control measures.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene field investigations and exposure assessments.
  • Perform personal and area air monitoring for hydrocarbons, particulates, and other airborne contaminants.
  • Conduct asbestos and lead air monitoring and bulk sampling.
  • Perform noise dosimetry and area noise surveys.
  • Conduct indoor air quality investigations.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain IH sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Collect, document, and perform basic analysis of field data.
  • Respond to emergencies, select appropriate IH equipment for sampling, and provide accurate data.
  • Adapt to sampling issues in the field, find solutions for equipment deficiencies, lack of media, or special jobs.
  • Fix gear in the field and adapt when accessories are left at the lab.
  • Enter data into Excel and extract tables, employee notification letters, and other reports.
  • Draft reports for review by a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Adapt and learn new skills as required by customers.
