About The Position

The Manager, Research Pharmacy provides leadership and oversight for research pharmacy services supporting clinical research programs across the organization. This role is responsible for managing research pharmacy personnel, coordinating research medication-use processes, supporting regulatory and quality requirements, and ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of research pharmacy services. The Manager, Research Pharmacy collaborates with investigators, research teams, pharmacy leadership, and operational stakeholders to support study activation, protocol implementation, medication safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives that advance institutional research objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree - Pharmacy (BPharm) required
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Valid State of Florida Registered Pharmacist license required
  • Operational Management: Optimizes day-to-day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Organizational Development: Ability to implement strategies to improve organizational effectiveness, engagement, and manage change.
  • Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management.
  • Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages research pharmacy services, personnel, and daily operations to support the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of clinical research activities.
  • Provides supervision, coaching, performance management, workforce planning, and professional development for research pharmacy staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees research pharmacy support throughout the study lifecycle, including protocol review, feasibility assessment, study activation, implementation, maintenance, amendments, monitoring activities, and study closeout.
  • Establishes and maintains standardized practices, policies, procedures, and workflows that promote regulatory compliance, research integrity, medication safety, quality outcomes, and operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with investigators, research teams, pharmacy leadership, nursing, regulatory personnel, sponsors, and other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support of research studies.
  • Provides oversight of research medication-use processes, including protocol interpretation, clinical and operational workflow coordination, documentation standards, and service delivery requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, institutional, accreditation, and sponsor requirements governing research pharmacy operations and investigational product management.
  • Leads quality improvement, risk mitigation, and medication safety initiatives by identifying opportunities to strengthen processes, enhance service quality, and improve operational performance.
  • Supports research pharmacy technology, informatics, reporting, and process improvement efforts that enhance efficiency, compliance, data integrity, and service scalability.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports operational, quality, financial, and service performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Supports departmental planning, program development, resource management, and service expansion initiatives to meet evolving research, patient care, and organizational needs.
  • Represents research pharmacy services on departmental, institutional, and external committees, workgroups, and collaborative initiatives as assigned.
  • Promotes education, training, competency development, and knowledge sharing for pharmacy staff, learners, and interdisciplinary stakeholders involved in research activities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of research pharmacy practice, regulatory requirements, medication-use processes, and emerging trends to support effective program leadership and innovation.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
