Sets up and operates internal grinding machines to perform the grinding operations necessary to produce finished parts to specified print tolerances. This role involves performing all work elements to make any setup or reset in the machine group, which may include removing and installing support rolls, indicating, removing, and installing pressure rolls, installing spindles, changing motor pulleys, and changing and adjusting the diamond roll dresser. The operator will also install motor blocks to drive the grinding wheel for dressing the drive roll and for bearing components, and change, grind, and adjust jaws on the chuck work-head, as well as change and grind backing plates, and set and adjust shoes and shoe holders. During setup, the operator will attend running machines in the group at regular intervals. The position requires operating multiple machines simultaneously, manually loading and unloading parts, and using a variety of gauges to inspect parts and make machine adjustments to maintain specified print tolerances. The role also includes SPC data charting, reading prints, changing grinding wheels, turning diamonds, maintaining a clean work area, completing paperwork, and performing miscellaneous related duties such as material handling, clerical reporting, and machine lubrication. First piece approval and setup approval processes are also part of the responsibilities, along with operating precision measuring equipment, and adhering to ethics, safety, export/import/supply chain security, environmental compliance, and ISO 9000 standards.
