About The Position

Quakertown Veterinary Clinic is looking for a skilled Veterinary ICU Technician to join our 24-hour hospital. This role is focused on providing high-level nursing care, close patient monitoring, and hands-on support for hospitalized, emergency, surgical, and critically ill patients. If you enjoy challenging cases, advanced nursing responsibilities, and working closely with veterinarians and other experienced technicians, this is an opportunity to expand your skills in a busy, multi-species hospital.

Requirements

  • Comfortable caring for complex and unstable patients
  • Able to work confidently in a fast-paced hospital setting
  • Previous ICU, emergency, specialty, or critical care experience
  • Strong patient assessment and nursing skills
  • Proficiency with IV catheter placement and venipuncture
  • Experience caring for hospitalized or critically ill patients
  • Knowledge of medications, fluid therapy, and advanced treatments
  • Ability to identify changes in patient condition and communicate concerns quickly
  • Experience assisting with emergency stabilization
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate medical documentation
  • Ability to prioritize treatments and manage multiple patients
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • CVT, LVT, or RVT credentials are preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing nursing care and monitoring for hospitalized and critical patients
  • Complete regular patient assessments and communicate changes in condition to the medical team
  • Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture
  • Collect and prepare samples for diagnostic testing
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and CRIs as directed
  • Monitor fluid therapy and accurately document patient intake and output
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs
  • Monitor ECG, blood pressure, SpO2, temperature, and other vital parameters
  • Provide oxygen therapy and supportive care
  • Assist veterinarians with emergency stabilization and critical procedures
  • Care for patients before and after surgery
  • Manage feeding tubes, urinary catheters, drains, and other supportive devices
  • Assist with blood transfusions and monitor patients closely
  • Keep treatment sheets and medical records accurate and up to date
  • Communicate patient status, concerns, and treatment updates with the veterinary team
  • Help maintain an organized, clean, and well-stocked ICU
  • Provide compassionate, low-stress care whenever possible
