About The Position

The ICU Registered Nurse works in a 25-bed unit with 2:1 patient ratios. The unit is staffed around the clock by mid-level providers, trauma surgeons, and respiratory therapists. Physical and occupational therapy are available during day shift. The ICU is a Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level 2 Trauma Center, and has a Three Star STS Open Heart Program. The department describes its environment as collaborative and supportive, with access to new equipment and technology and experienced staff with significant tenure.

The unit uses Meditech Expanse for documentation and equipment including GE monitors, Hamilton BiPAPs, high-flow oxygen, Puritan ventilators, and Hemospheres. Bedside shift reports occur at each change of shift, and MyCare boards must be updated during each shift. Travelers float first on a rotational basis. Staff wear scrubs of any color.

Scheduling requires 12 shifts per month (three shifts per week), including four weekend shifts. Departmental leadership manages scheduling while considering requested time off.

Requirements

• Past ICU experience.
• Strong telemetry skills.
• Experience titrating vasoactive and inotrope medications.
• Chest tube placement experience.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification.
• Work 12 shifts per month (three shifts per week), including four weekend shifts.

Nice To Haves

• Open heart experience.
• Temporary pacing experience.
• Swan-Ganz catheter experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide ICU nursing care to patients at a 2:1 patient ratio.
• Update MyCare boards during each shift.
• Conduct bedside shift report at each change of shift.
• Float first on a rotational basis if working as a traveler.
• Perform or support procedures carried out on the unit, including intubation, central line and arterial line placement, and chest tube placement.
