About The Position

The ICU Nurse Leader is a licensed Registered Nurse accountable for leading people, processes, and outcomes within the Intensive Care Unit. This role supports high‑acuity, complex patient care through operational excellence, clinical leadership, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and patient‑centered care. The Nurse Leader advocates for patients, families, nurses, and colleagues while advancing critical care nursing practice.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required)
• Active Iowa RN license
• Minimum 2 years of ICU or critical care nursing experience (required)
• BLS required

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree (preferred)
• Previous charge nurse, supervisory, or nursing leadership experience (preferred)
• ACLS preferred
• Specialty certification (CCRNs or related) preferred
• Demonstrated ability to lead in a collaborative, shared‑governance environment

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 operational leadership for the ICU, including staffing, throughput, and resource utilization
• Lead, coach, and develop ICU nursing staff through hiring, onboarding, performance management, and engagement
• Ensure high‑reliability care through compliance with regulatory, safety, and evidence‑based ICU standards
• Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes for critically ill patients
• Drive quality, safety, patient experience, and financial performance using data and established metrics
• Lead unit‑based improvement initiatives and support change management in a high‑acuity environment
• Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, well‑being, and continuous learning
