About The Position

As the Nurse Manager for the ICU Flex and Close Observer Teams, the candidate will provide comprehensive 24/7 leadership and clinical oversight, with a primary focus on strategically coordinating and overseeing scheduling and resource allocation for both dynamic teams. This role involves ensuring optimal patient care, strict adherence to unit standards, and continuous practice improvement, all while working closely with unit leadership and interdisciplinary teams to supervise staff and foster a collaborative environment. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing new strategies for patient care delivery, maintaining 24/7 accountability for all nursing activities, and ensuring appropriate staffing levels for varying acuity and census, including managing shifts, holidays, and weekends. Additionally, the successful candidate will develop, implement, and audit clinical practice standards, lead team-based performance improvement initiatives, and manage human resources through recruiting, mentoring, and performance evaluations. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Active NYS RN license
  • BSN (MSN preferred)
  • A minimum of five years of critical care nursing experience
  • At least two years in a leadership role within an inpatient hospital setting
  • Demonstrated experience in managing flexible staffing models or patient observation programs.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains 24 hour-a-day accountability for all patient care and nursing activities on assigned inpatient unit.
  • Oversees and directs unit activities including standards development, human resource management, assessment of resource needs and utilization, staff development and communication within nursing practice as well as among other disciplines and departments.
  • Oversees all performance improvement activities at the unit level and participates in committees at all levels within the institution.
  • Provide comprehensive 24/7 leadership and clinical oversight, with a primary focus on strategically coordinating and overseeing scheduling and resource allocation for both dynamic teams.
