ICS/SCADA Engineer

G6 Cyber Solutions•San Antonio, TX

About The Position

G6 Cyber Solutions is seeking an ICS/SCADA Engineer to support a Department of Defense customer’s operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems work. The environment combines physical field hardware with virtualized and simulated OT components that reflect real-world industrial control systems. The engineer will design, configure, and secure these systems and identify and address their weaknesses. This role involves hands-on work across hardware, software, and networks on a small, fast-moving team. The engineer will design, build, and maintain physical and virtual OT/ICS environments representing power, water, and other critical infrastructure; research threats to industrial control devices and systems; and develop and test mitigations. The role also includes planning and conducting tests, analyzing data, documenting approaches and results, prototyping and integrating OT/ICS capabilities, and collaborating with government, industry, and utility partners. Occasional travel to partner sites and ranges is expected, up to about 25%.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience or academic research in ICS/SCADA, OT networking, or critical infrastructure security.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, Python, or Java.
  • Experience programming and configuring PLC, RTU, and IED hardware, and building or supporting SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Working knowledge of industrial protocols including DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, EtherNet/IP, SEL, and OPC.
  • Comfort with Windows, Linux, and real-time operating systems such as VxWorks.
  • Experience performing threat and vulnerability analysis on ICS/SCADA environments.
  • Ability to read and update technical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams in CAD tools.
  • Experience virtualizing OT components to model real-world infrastructure.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Industrial Engineering; other STEM degrees paired with relevant experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Operational experience in electric power, water, energy, transportation, or manufacturing environments.
  • A master's degree in a related field.
  • An ICS/SCADA or robotics focus is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain physical and virtual OT/ICS environments that mirror power, water, and other critical infrastructure systems.
  • Research threats to PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, and SCADA/HMI systems, and develop and test mitigations for identified vulnerabilities.
  • Plan and run tests, collect and analyze data, and document the approach, results, and recommendations.
  • Prototype new OT/ICS capabilities and integrate them into existing environments to keep them current and realistic.
  • Work with government, industry, and utility partners on configuration, testing, and shared research.
  • Travel occasionally to partner sites and ranges, up to about 25%.
