About The Position

The New York Islanders Hockey Club is one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports, with a deeply passionate and loyal fan base that is second to none. Built on a Dynasty in the 1980’s with four straight Stanley Cup Championships and 19 consecutive playoff series wins, our history has defined a legacy that remains untouched in professional sports. That legacy inspires us to leave our mark in the sports, entertainment, and cultural landscape. In 2021, the New York Islanders moved to our new permanent home, UBS Arena. This state-of-the-art venue, which was built for hockey and made for music, is nestled within the historic Belmont Park – a storied landmark of New York. UBS Arena features best in class facilities and amenities, including premium suites, clubs, and lounges that offer boutique hospitality to elevate the guest experience. UBS Arena is part of a larger redevelopment project at Belmont Park, which aims to transform the area into a vibrant entertainment destination with the opening of Belmont Park Village in 2024 and the new Belmont Park Racetrack in 2026.

Requirements

Part-time role
Excellent skating abilities
A devotion to your craft
A passion for sports
Experienced skaters
Strong ability to skate; hockey experience and/or knowledge is a plus
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, i.e., nights and weekends
Ability to mobilize quickly and for long durations
Knowledge of the New York Islanders and Long Island
Awareness and understanding of the rules of the National Hockey League
Strong work ethic and personal integrity

Nice To Haves

Hockey experience and/or knowledge is a plus

Responsibilities

Shoveling the ice during TV timeouts
Engaging in fan activations during intermissions
Executing other duties as assigned
Attend all NYI home games
Attend additional events upon request
Skate comfortably with and around teammates
Multi-task in a fast-paced, stressful environment
Be spontaneous and react quickly when necessary
Adhere to all New York Islanders and NHL guidelines and policies, including wearing appropriate attire at all times while in the arena
Working game nights and must be available to attend all home games
Additional team events may be required and assigned by NYI management.
Skating: Extensive ability to skate and stop
Accountability: Taking ownership of game time responsibilities
Punctuality: Arrive at least 2 hours prior to puck drop, in uniform, to review and rehearse all material as assigned
Attention to Detail: Ability to follow directions and fulfill assignments promptly, including set-up and clean-up of all required equipment and materials
