About The Position

The IBM Power AIX Systems Engineer I is an entry-level position designed for an individual eager to develop deep technical expertise in enterprise Unix environments, virtualization, and high-performance hardware management. This role will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and day-to-day management of IBM Power Systems environments. You will work with a team and independently to support our clients in the public and private sector. The Engineer will perform all responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of Unix/Linux command-line interfaces and file system structures.
  • Basic knowledge of server architecture and data center environments.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent technical certification/experience).
  • Precise execution of technical procedures is critical to maintaining system stability.
  • A strong desire to learn proprietary IBM technologies and evolve within the role.
  • Ability to follow logic-based troubleshooting steps to resolve technical discrepancies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively to achieve shared objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the physical and logical setup of IBM Power Servers and Hardware Management Consoles (HMC).
  • Learn to deploy and manage virtual resources using PowerVM and Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS).
  • Perform routine AIX operating system installations, migrations, and patch management (TL/SP updates).
  • Monitor system performance, error logs, and hardware alerts to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations, hardware inventory, and procedural changes.
  • Work closely with senior administrators to troubleshoot complex issues and implement infrastructure improvements.
