About The Position

The Regional Director, I & I is the direct manager and strategic field leader for a regional team of Field Reimbursement Managers supporting Pfizer’s I & I portfolio. FRMs report directly to this role and operate under its strategic direction, day-to-day guidance, compliance oversight, and performance management. The Regional Director leads a team of field-based access leaders who integrate patient journey ownership, reimbursement subject matter expertise, payer-policy navigation, HCP office education, and account-level access strategy to remove barriers and improve appropriate patient access. The Regional Director is accountable for the full patient access experience delivered by the team — from patient enrollment and needs assessment through therapy initiation, continuation, case resolution, and HCP office engagement. This leader sets the strategic vision and operational standards for the FRM team in alignment with the Pfizer Specialty Care Patient Solutions Access and Reimbursement plan, brand priorities, and compliance requirements. The Regional Director ensures FRMs operate in close coordination with Field Sales, Key Account Directors, hub partners, Patient Solutions, Market Access, Brand, Legal/Compliance, and other cross-functional stakeholders — bringing field credibility, coaching expertise, reimbursement depth, and a patient-first mindset to every element of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD) preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical field operations, patient services, reimbursement, or access/hub management
  • Minimum 3–5+ years of people management experience leading, coaching, or developing field-based access, reimbursement, patient services, hub-facing, or customer-facing teams
  • Direct experience with specialty pharmacy, hub programs, or patient support services in a regulated environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the access and reimbursement landscape, including benefits investigation, prior authorization, step edits, appeals, payer policy, coverage pathways, specialty pharmacy fulfillment, and insurance coverage processes
  • Working knowledge of medical and pharmacy billing including CPT, HCPCS/J-codes, ICD-10, NDC, Medicare Part B buy-and-bill, specialty pharmacy processes, and payer-specific coverage criteria relevant to INI/specialty products
  • Proven ability to build reimbursement subject matter expertise across a team and translate payer policy, patient access data, and field insights into regional action plans
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence across cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large geographic territory and travel 50–60% of the time.
  • Valid US driver’s license and driving record in compliance with company standards.
  • Must reside near airport with ability to travel within Region and live within Region
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage and supervise regional Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs), providing day-to-day direction, compliance oversight, and strategic guidance.
  • Oversee FRM execution in areas such as patient needs assessments, reimbursement navigation, HCP office education, payer-policy clarification, account workflow optimization, and hub enrollment support.
  • Set and enforce performance expectations aligned with national KPIs, including enrollment completion, therapy initiation and continuation, case resolution timelines, access barrier removal, compliant outreach, and account-level impact.
  • Conduct regular field rides, call coaching, performance reviews, and individual development conversations.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the regional FRM team in partnership with HR and the National Lead.
  • Ensure all FRM activity is conducted consistently with Pfizer's mission, compliance standards, and approved role scope.
  • Manage the regional budget, including headcount planning, travel spend, and program resources.
  • Coach and hold FRMs accountable for end-to-end patient journey leadership, including needs assessment, barrier identification, escalation, continuity across enrollment, therapy initiation, and continuation.
  • Monitor and address friction points in the patient access journey, such as prior authorization delays, step edits, coding or documentation gaps, affordability concerns, coverage gaps, and specialty pharmacy fulfillment issues.
  • Serve as an escalation resource for complex patient access cases within the region.
  • Champion the approved consent enrollment model and support continuous improvement in enrollment efficiency.
  • Ensure FRMs consistently apply a patient-first, non-clinical support model.
  • Build and sustain team-level reimbursement expertise across the regional payer landscape, coverage pathways, prior authorization, step edits, appeals, coding, claims processes, and payer-specific access requirements.
  • Identify payer policy trends, coverage gaps, formulary changes, and reimbursement challenges impacting patient access, and communicate these insights proactively.
  • Provide oversight and escalation support for payer-related access resolution activities.
  • Partner with market access, trade, and HEOR teams to align field execution with national account strategies.
  • Translate complex payer and reimbursement policy into clear, compliant coaching guidance for FRMs and actionable education for HCP office staff.
  • Establish standards for compliant HCP and office staff education on reimbursement processes, coverage pathways, Hub services, enrollment workflows, and financial assistance resources.
  • Lead regional account-level access strategy by guiding FRMs in identifying systemic workflow barriers within provider offices and developing scalable solutions.
  • Serve as a strategic reimbursement and access subject matter expert for complex accounts and cross-functional partners.
  • Coach FRMs to participate appropriately in account planning and contribute to coordinated, patient-centric approaches.
  • Serve as the regional access leadership point of coordination across Brand, National Access & Reimbursement leadership, Field Sales, Key Account Directors, Patient Solutions, Hub partners, Legal/Compliance, Market Access, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Brand, Regional Business Directors, Key Account Directors, Patient Solutions, Market Access, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Partner with brand, market access, patient solutions, hub operations, and field leadership to identify systemic barriers, align resources, and surface field insights.
  • Coordinate with compliance and legal as needed to ensure all FRM activities are conducted within approved guidelines.
  • Lead a Patients First strategy with leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Track, interpret, and report regional performance metrics to the National Lead.
  • Aggregate regional FRM insights on payer trends, reimbursement challenges, HCP workflow barriers, account dynamics, and access delays, and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and case activity within approved platforms.
  • Use field data, team observations, and market access intelligence to guide coaching priorities, account engagement strategy, escalation pathways, and continuous improvement opportunities.
