About The Position

The Bakken trend is a sequence of liquids-rich sand and shale layers in the Williston Basin, which stretches across western North Dakota and into Canada. ConocoPhillips holds approximately 799,000 net acres in the Williston Basin, located in North Dakota and eastern Montana. The primary producing zones are the Middle Bakken and Three Forks formations. ConocoPhillips operated three rigs and one frac crew on average during 2025, resulting in 72 operated wells drilled and 98 operated wells brought online. During 2025, net production averaged 204 MBOED. This position offers Quality of Life Incentives for employees living and maintaining a primary residence in the Watford City, ND, and New Town ND area. The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician will provide operations with troubleshooting and technical support for all instrument and electrical equipment within the Bakken asset area. Instrumentation and Electrical services are a critical piece of the ongoing operations and maintenance of the Bakken Asset. The role involves working safely at all times, swiftly completing I&E maintenance work orders, troubleshooting issues that arise on well locations, checking functionality of instruments, and ensuring automation is properly executing programs as defined in cause and effects. The technician will work closely with a team of technicians, specialists, & leads, engineering, and operations in support of these field assets. This position can be located in Dunn Center, Watford City, or New Town, ND. Candidates must reside or be willing to relocate within 50 miles of Dunn Center, Watford, City, or New Town, ND. This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Current/valid driver's license
  • Basic level of technical knowledge and training to maintain instrument and electrical equipment
  • Willing and able to perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) the following: Climb various ladders and stairs up to 50 feet in height to perform maintenance on equipment; Raise and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds; Walk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material on a daily basis on even and uneven terrain; Work outside in harsh weather conditions; Work alone a high percentage of the time; Wear personal protective equipment (PPE); Be on call; Work unscheduled overtime; Work day shifts; Willing to work a rotational schedule

Nice To Haves

  • 1 or more years of experience with low, medium, and high voltage circuits
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of National Electric Codes
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of electronic test instruments
  • Intermediate level of knowledge in process controls with oil and gas processing devices and process
  • Intermediate knowledge in Scada Applications
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word
  • Basic level of knowledge of Electrical plot plans and electrical area classifications
  • Basic level of proficiency applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems with VFDs (Allen Bradley, Lufkin, Apergy, Fuji, Summit, Schlumberger, & Baker Hughes)

Responsibilities

  • Compliance with all applicable DOT and OSHA regulations, and safety policies and procedures
  • Performing all duties of this position with a focus on safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance
  • Installing, inspecting, maintaining, operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating various instrumentation, electrical, and controls equipment. Along with finishing the appropriate documentation associated with the duties
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on I&E equipment associated with Well sites and Central Facilities and complete associated paperwork correctly and in a timely manner
  • Communicate findings of issues to ensure root cause of failures are realized and shared with team members
  • Build inventive and effective solutions based on available information and make timely decisions that are safe and ethical
  • Provide support for commissioning of new equipment and facilities by performing loop/logic checks
  • Creating and responding to SAP notifications and process work orders
  • Driving collaboration throughout the area of responsibility
  • Maintaining current and accurate documentation of maintenance activities
  • Minimizing downtime and unsafe conditions by performing preventative and predictive maintenance
  • Maintaining technical and administrative records, including prints and project reports
  • Pursuing cost reduction opportunities
  • Be on call, responding to emergencies and maintain emergency response preparedness
  • Completing and maintaining required safety/regulatory training
