About The Position

INEOS Oligomers is seeking an I&E Technician for its new world-scale LAO production facility in Chocolate Bayou, Alvin, Texas. This role reports to the I&E Supervisor and is responsible for completing maintenance work on instrumentation, electrical, and analyzer equipment in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. The position operates within the framework of INEOS's Responsible Care principles, emphasizing safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement. The technician will be involved in all aspects of plant operations, adhering to INEOS's 20 safety principles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum 5 years in an industrial maintenance environment preferred.
  • Petrochemical plant or refinery experience preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong working knowledge of process and personal safety and health practices applicable in the petrochemical industry (energy isolation, lockout tagout, work permitting, confined space entry, working from heights, hazard communication, lifting and hoisting, incident reporting and investigation, and MOC).
  • Ability to demonstrate strong working knowledge of electrical safe work practices applicable in the petrochemical industry.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of industrial plant instrument, electrical, and analyzer equipment inspection, calibration, and repair techniques.
  • Working knowledge of instrument, electrical, and analyzer standards as applied in petrochemical industry and general knowledge of various Codes (e.g. API, ASME, ANSI, NFPA, ISA).
  • Working knowledge of technical documentation associated with instrument, electrical, and analyzer design and equipment.
  • Demonstrated technical capability to assess vendor quotes against repair objectives.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to assess work sequencing, optimize work planning, scheduling, and cost is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience in executing preventive maintenance plans.
  • Ability to read P&IDs.
  • Prefer experience with Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Knowledge of and experience with instrumentation application, installation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting along with the ability to read and understand P&IDs, schematics, loop drawings, and make accurate redline corrections as necessary.
  • Experience using HART communicator and documenting calibrator to verify settings of instruments in the field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with PLCs (especially Allen-Bradley), ladder logic, control valves, HART field devices, Emerson Delta V BPCS/SIS or related DCS platforms.
  • Familiar with maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
  • Knowledge of instrumentation relating to temperature, pressure, mass flow and level. Includes DP, Coriolis, Vortex, Ultrasonic, Nuclear, Radar and Magnetic instrumentation, along with associated equipment such as control valves.
  • Knowledge of and experience of troubleshooting equipment with voltages up to 13.8kV.
  • Trouble-shooting skills along with the ability to read and understand P&ID, Motor Control Schematics, Electrical One-Lines and Electrical Installation Details.
  • Knowledge of testing and maintenance of VFDs, transformers, large electric motors, UPS systems, low and medium voltage switchgear, and low and medium voltage motor control centers.
  • On-line process analyzers such as gas chromatograph, flue gas, continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and sampling conditioning, and fire and gas systems both open path and point detection.
  • Working knowledge of analyzer database software and other computer systems.
  • Safety minded, demonstrated strong safety and environmental performance.
  • Strong verbal as well as written communication skills (upward, lateral, and downward).
  • Strong ability to work with others, team builder.
  • Strong bias for action to identify potential problems and co-ordinate their resolution before they become an issue.
  • Ability to manage work priorities to deliver performance improvements and reliability in a demanding work environment.

  • Regularly required to lift at least 50lbs, walking, climbing ladders/stairs, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to perform climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and manual operation of various size valves and equipment.
  • Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-year technical degree preferred.
  • Master Electrician license is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely and follow Company policies and procedures.
  • Perform effective preventive and predictive monitoring and maintenance techniques to identify and define abnormal operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and install instrumentation, electrical, and analyzer equipment.
  • Read and interpret work orders, equipment manuals, and I&E drawings.
  • Update maintenance supervisors with job status and submit repair reports and documentation to meet ISO standards.
  • Collect equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Update equipment records.
  • Complete on-call assignments for overtime and off-hours work requests.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Incident Investigations.
  • Keep all test equipment in a safe working condition with current certifications.
  • Participate in the work permit procedure.
  • Perform repair and calibration documentation.
  • Follow safe work practices.
  • Comply with Oligomers Chocolate Bayou Policies and Procedures, INEOS 20 Safety Principles, and other HSE programs.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.
