About The Position

QB Energy is seeking an I&E Facilities Engineer III with a strong instrumentation, electrical, and controls (I&E) background to support the design, reliability, and optimization of our production and midstream facilities. This engineer will own I&E scope across compressor stations, water disposal and treatment facilities, separation facilities, tank batteries, and well pad production equipment — from control system architecture and instrumentation selection through power distribution and field troubleshooting. The role works closely with I&E technicians, Operations, and controls contractors, and plays a key part in the company's electrification and emissions-reduction projects.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering preferred; Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, or related engineering degrees will be considered with strong I&E or controls experience
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years in I&E, electrical, or controls engineering
  • Oil and gas production or midstream experience strongly preferred; experience in related industrial settings (power generation, water/wastewater, chemical processing) will be considered
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Organized, resourceful self-starter able to manage multiple priorities
  • Flexible to travel to field locations and work long, irregular hours when needed
  • Creative and analytical problem-solver, able to diagnose root causes and translate data into engineering decisions
  • Composed under pressure with frequent interruptions
  • Strong integrity, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-disciplined with a strong work ethic
  • I&E design principles, including control panels, motor controls, VFDs, power distribution, grounding, and field instrumentation
  • SCADA, PLC, HMI, and telemetry/communications systems for production and emissions monitoring
  • Hazardous area classification and NEC requirements for oil and gas facilities
  • Instrumentation for pressure, level, flow, temperature, and gas detection, including ESD and safety systems
  • Working knowledge of compression, separation, and surface production facility operations
  • Project management and cost estimating for small- to mid-size capital projects
  • Comfortable adopting new digital tools, including AI-based software, to accelerate engineering workflows
  • Effective in multi-disciplinary team environments

Nice To Haves

  • P.E. or E.I.T. a plus
  • Familiarity with EPA, CDPHE, and ECMC methane and emissions regulations a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide I&E engineering for new facility design and retrofits, including control system architecture, SCADA/PLC integration, and field instrumentation selection.
  • Develop and review I&E deliverables such as electrical one-lines, loop diagrams, instrument indexes, cause-and-effect matrices, and control panel drawings, and support P&ID development (in-house or with external engineering firms).
  • Review and specify electrical distribution, motor controls, VFDs, and control panel designs for compressor, water treatment, and production facilities.
  • Support power supply and distribution projects, including PDC/MCC/switchgear specification and procurement, and coordination with electrical contractors and utilities.
  • Partner with I&E technicians and controls contractors to troubleshoot instrumentation, telemetry, communications, and automation issues in the field.
  • Support electrification and low/no-emission power projects, including grid power, microturbines, and electric-drive equipment.
  • Partner with the air emissions team to implement monitoring, instrumentation, and automation solutions that reduce methane emissions and support regulatory compliance.
  • Use SCADA and production data to identify underperforming equipment, alarm issues, and automation opportunities.
  • Help develop and maintain I&E design standards, specifications, and preferred equipment lists.
  • Maintain accurate, current electrical and controls documentation, including as-builts.
  • Evaluate and pilot new technologies and digital tools, including AI-assisted engineering tools, that improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Support general facilities engineering projects across compression, separation, water handling, pipelines, and well pad production equipment, including scoping, equipment selection, cost estimates, and construction support.
  • Work with Production Engineering and Operations to troubleshoot and improve facility performance, including bottlenecks and underperforming equipment.
  • Collaborate with all company employees, contractors, and local service companies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, efficiency, and profitability of production, gathering, and compression facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including timely written reports as requested.

Benefits

  • medical, dental, and vision coverage (lowest-tier medical premiums covered 100% for employees and dependents)
  • company-paid life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance
