About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups with over 60 years of experience serving the nuclear industry globally. We are the stewards of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology. This role involves leading a team of I&C engineers in preparing I&C related tasks and deliverables, ensuring their high quality, and managing schedules and deadlines. The position requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, representing I&C Design Engineering in the field during fabrication and construction, and providing design support to the construction team. Responsibilities include performing conceptual and/or detailed design of nuclear instrumentation and control systems, defining system requirements and control logic, performing component specifications and selections, and interfacing with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other company areas.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, member in good standing (or P.Eng. application in final stage of approval).
  • BS Honors degree in a relevant field of I&C/Electrical/Automation engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant design implementation/construction support experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in technical environment.
  • Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Willingness to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with green field construction and/or nuclear industry are assets.
  • Experience with Smart plant instrumentation (SPI) and smart plant 3D is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience at an operating nuclear power station or a similar installation not required but would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and control system functions, configurations and equipment as used for nuclear plant process systems, safety systems, or safety-related systems, or for similar systems in other industries would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with industrial/nuclear QA programs and procedures along with pertinent CSA, IEEE, or related I&C engineering codes and standards would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of I&C engineers to prepare I&C related tasks and deliverables.
  • Review and ensure I&C team deliverables are high quality, including design requirements, design description, elementary diagrams, functional specifications, Instrument data sheets, I/O list, together with supporting analysis/assessment documents and other design basis documents.
  • Track schedule and progress deadlines, resolve complicated technical issues, provide inputs and guide the team, collaborate with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Represent I&C Design Engineering in the field during fabrication and construction.
  • Provide I&C design support to the construction team in the field for the execution of system design packages.
  • Lead the team to perform conceptual and/or detailed design of nuclear instrumentation and control systems and modifications, including definition of system functional and performance requirements and control algorithms, definition of control logic and wiring arrangements, control parameters, setpoints, instrument ranges and environmental qualification and seismic qualification.
  • Perform specification, sizing, and selection for various types of I&C components, and produce component related documentation including assessment documents, setpoint calculations, error analyses, technical specifications, etc.
  • Provide input to the drawing office for the preparation of various I&C related engineering drawings such as general arrangement drawings, instrument loop diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams, bills of materials, etc.
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other areas of the company.
