About The Position

The Hyperbaric Technician provides direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs and assisting with basic wound care. This role is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection of the hyperbaric chamber and its support systems. The technician prepares patients for treatment, operates the hyperbaric chamber, and collects patient data from various sources. They assess and interpret patient data, identify and prevent environmental hazards, and ensure cost-effective use of equipment and materials. The position involves data input, documentation, and participation in performance improvement activities. Maintaining a safe environment within the hyperbaric facility and adhering to decompression procedures are critical. The technician also informs personnel about special work conditions and removes hazardous items from the chamber. This role requires competency in caring for patients across all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office.
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Certified with the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology as a Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT); if not current, must be obtained within six (6) months of hire/transfer date.
  • Completion of Hyperbaric Medicine Team Training and Wound Care Course Training prior to being able to service patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care, including obtaining vital signs, and participates in performing ordered basic wound care.
  • Conducts day to day maintenance, including cleaning and disinfecting, on the hyperbaric chamber and related support systems.
  • Prepares patient for treatment and performs hyperbaric chamber and related support systems operations.
  • Collects data from patients, family, physician and clinical record along with records and reports pertinent data to RN, Safety Director and/or physician.
  • Assesses, interprets data, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Recognizes and prevents environment hazards to the patient and unit.
  • Utilizes equipment and material in a cost-effective manner.
  • Performs data input.
  • Completes documentation on appropriate forms.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with a hyperbaric exposure to inert gases.
  • Informs personnel of any special work conditions such as infection control, hazard control, and confined spaces.
  • Restricts or removes any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items from the chamber.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
