Hyperbaric Technician
About The Position
The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for providing hyperbaric medicine treatments to patients in accordance with accepted protocols and physician prescriptions. Key responsibilities include patient care, equipment quality control, invasive and noninvasive monitoring, wound dressings, accurate record keeping, and the safe performance of hyperbaric treatments. This role involves caring for patients of all ages, from infants to geriatrics, and requires good verbal communication and administrative skills. The technician will prepare and maintain departmental/hospital documentation and patient charting using basic computer skills, interacting professionally with patients, family members, and clinical personnel. The position demands initiative, sound independent judgment, and the ability to concentrate in potentially emotionally charged environments with life-and-death ramifications.
Requirements
- Previous experience as RRT, LPN, RN, Military Corpsman, EMT/Paramedic, or CHT (Required)
- Attend HBO course within 6 months of employment (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
- Professional certification in Virginia (Required)
- CHT or CHS within 1-1/2 Yrs (Required)
Nice To Haves
- Associates Degree, Nursing or Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
- Bachelors Degree, Nursing or Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
- ACLS Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Prepare patient for HBO treatment using the current safety and clinical protocols provided
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records/charts as they pertain to treatment documentation
- Reinforce education as it relates to HBO therapy
- Perform hyperbaric chamber operations as required
- Perform duties and procedures as directed by supervisor/medical director
- Participate in quality improvement program
- Maintain competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate
