About The Position

The Hyperbaric Technician will act as the Hyperbaric Safety Director and administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider. The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient. The Hyperbaric Technician is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • Completed a Medical Assistant training program OR Medical Assistant Training Program equivalency: at least 6 months experience in Certified Medical Assistant role OR proof of completion of on-the-job training/education program for certified medical assisting in another healthcare organization
  • Completion of an introductory hyperbaric medicine training course within 30 days of hire (approved by NBDHMT, DoD, ACHM, or UHMS)
  • Completion of Introductory Wound Care Course within 90 days of hire (recognized or accredited by a national wound care organization)
  • 1-year acute clinical experience
  • Current Certification by one of the following: AAMA (CMA), AMT or AAH (RMA), NCCT (NCMA), NHA (CCMA), NAHP (NRCMA)
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a healthcare-related field
  • Additional education or continuing education in wound care, hyperbaric medicine, emergency medicine, or ambulatory care
  • Completion of a nationally recognized wound care or hyperbaric medicine educational program
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in hyperbaric medicine, wound care, emergency services, ambulatory care, surgical services, or a related clinical setting
  • Previous experience operating and maintaining monoplace or multiplace hyperbaric chambers
  • Experience assisting with wound assessments, dressing changes, debridement support, and advanced wound care therapies
  • Completion of a nationally recognized wound care education program accredited or endorsed by organizations such as WOCN, NAWCO, or equivalent
  • Current or prior certification as a: Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT), Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS), Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN), Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist (CHWS), Wound Care Certified (WCC) or other nationally recognized wound care credential
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Experience with electronic medical records (Epic preferred) and clinical documentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hyperbaric safety standards, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements, including UHMS and NFPA guidelines
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience supporting quality improvement, patient education, and process standardization initiatives
  • Wound Care Certified (WCC) credential through NAWCO
  • Ostomy Management Specialist (OMS) or other nationally recognized wound and ostomy certification
  • Certification as a Hyperbaric Safety Director (CHSD) or equivalent hyperbaric safety training
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Instructor, Preceptor, or other recognized clinical education credential
  • Additional nationally recognized certifications related to wound care, hyperbaric medicine, vascular care, diabetic limb preservation, or ambulatory procedural services
  • Completion of advanced continuing education in hyperbaric medicine, wound management, or patient safety
  • Knowledge of hyperbaric medicine and wound care principles
  • Experience with advanced wound care therapies, including NPWT, skin substitutes, compression, and offloading
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Familiarity with hyperbaric safety standards, emergency procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in an outpatient, procedural, or hospital-based clinical setting
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (Epic preferred)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and patient education skills
  • Commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and quality improvement
