About The Position

The Hyperbaric Technician Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Wound Care is responsible for administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician, under the direction of the Program Director and/or Safety Director of the Hyperbaric Medicine Department. This role ensures the safe and effective operation of hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The technician also serves as the facility safety officer for hyperbaric chambers and is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients and co-workers. Duties include completing required documentation in Healogics EMR, communicating patient information, assisting with patient preparation, monitoring patient condition during treatments, reinforcing education on hyperbaric therapy, and maintaining accurate patient records. The position involves performing hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance, supporting clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation, and participating in the safety program. Additionally, the role requires maintaining competencies, continuing education, and certifications, utilizing data software for wound management, making entries for daily treatments and clinic visits, and assisting with patient transfers. The technician will also handle insurance verifications/approvals for hyperbaric and wound care treatments, perform regular checks of hyperbaric chambers, maintain a clean environment, prepare reports for leadership meetings, and assist the front office coordinator with patient calls, pre-registration, and scheduling.

Requirements

  • Must be actively licensed to meet the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse currently licensed in the state of practice
  • Graduate of accredited LPN program
  • Must complete a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course within 90 days of hire date
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician.
  • Ensures the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems.
  • Responsible for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient.
  • Serves as the facility safety officer in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers and patients with respects to hyperbaric chambers.
  • Completes all required documentation in Healogics EMR.
  • Communicates patient information to the nursing staff and physician in charge of the center.
  • Assists in patient preparation for treatment.
  • Monitors patient condition continually during treatments and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Reinforces education as it relates to hyperbaric therapy.
  • Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.
  • Performs duties and procedures as directed by Program Director, Medical Director, and/or Clinical Nurse Manager Coordinator.
  • Performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required.
  • Supports clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.
  • Participates in the safety program.
  • Maintains competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate.
  • Utilizing data software for wound management.
  • Make appropriate entries for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits including photo uploading.
  • Lift patient or transfer patients with appropriate safety equipment.
  • Obtains insurance verifications/approvals for hyperbaric treatments.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual checks of the hyperbaric chambers, per Healogics guidelines.
  • Maintain clean environment in HBO chamber suite.
  • Prepare iHeal hyperbaric reports to participate in weekly leadership meetings.
  • Assists front office coordinator in calls to all wound care patient regarding any patient issues.
  • Assists front office coordinator in pre-registering wound care patients.
  • Able to submit billing for all wound care patients.
  • Obtains insurance verifications/approvals for wound care patients.
  • Assists in scheduling all patients in the wound care center.
