About The Position

The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) welcomes applications for full-time Dental Hygienists to provide comprehensive patient care across all areas of specialized dentistry. This role requires extensive, progressively responsible experience in delivering preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services, including conducting patient assessments, performing dental cleanings (prophylaxis and scaling and root planing), taking and interpreting radiographs, and educating patients on oral health practices. Responsibilities also include preparing and positioning patients, maintaining and organizing clinical areas, adhering to strict infection control and sterilization protocols, and collaborating with dental teams in specialties such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontics, endodontics, and restorative dentistry to support effective patient care.

Requirements

  • Current, valid licensure as a dental hygienist from the from the Colorado Dental Board
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis to patients
  • Perform scaling, root planing and selective polishing for patients as appropriate
  • Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by dental practice act
  • Place medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease treatment
  • Take radiographs of patients as prescribed by dentist
  • Maintain a supply inventory for hygiene treatment
  • Review, select and submit orders for patient education materials for the practice
