About The Position

Freeport-McMoRan is hiring a Hydromet SX Operator I at its Safford operations in southeastern Arizona. The Safford operation has been in operation since 2007 and is described as a zero-discharge facility emphasizing advanced technologies, sustainable practices, safety, and environmental stewardship. The operator works within the SX processes, which may include PLS, the SX circuit, and the electrolyte tank. The role includes collecting and running plant samples, monitoring and adjusting processes and flows, completing inspections, performing minor maintenance and housekeeping, and potentially operating forklifts and light-duty vehicles. Other duties may be assigned as required. The estimated base pay range is $26.00–$33.00 per hour. The role may involve a non-standard schedule, including shifts other than day shift, at a 24/7, 365-day operation. Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam and must pass required training and testing.

Requirements

Six months of experience in hydromet processing operations.
Knowledge of solution-extraction and leach flow sheets.
Knowledge of proper shutdown and startup procedures for copper sulphate and tank house electrolyte transfer systems.
Knowledge of pipelines and valve systems.
Complete required academic and practical competencies, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable, and demonstrate the required aptitude.
Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills and pass a written assessment where required; assessments may cover skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety.
Pass all required training and/or testing.
May be required to pass a medical exam.
Comply with mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as allowed by applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

Six months of SX or EW experience.

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor processes within SX, potentially including PLS, the SX circuit, and the electrolyte tank.
Collect and run plant samples.
Monitor processes and make adjustments as needed.
Adjust plant flows, including cell flows, acid flows, and dump flows.
Perform inspections of pipelines, pumps and motors, ponds, rain gauges, dams, dam diversions, and berms.
Complete minor maintenance activities as needed.
Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and light-duty vehicles, as needed.
Perform area housekeeping.
Perform other duties as required.
